Official Visitation - Barbados PDF Print E-mail
BarbadosThe Vicar General Fr. Zenon Hanas and the Consulter General Fr. Gilberto Orsolin, visited the Local Community of the Society in Barbados from January 11th to 18th 2010.
Barbados is an island situated between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean with a population of about 280.000 of which between 80 and 90% are of African origin. The Catholic Church is a minority one with about 4% of the population, however it is very much alive and active. There are seven parishes forming the one diocese of Bridgetown.
The first Pallottines, from the Polish Christ the King Province, went to Barbados in 2008 on the invitation of Archbishop Robert Rivas, OP and began pastoral work in the parish of St. Dominic, eighteen months later they extended it further. The three confreres attend the parish of St. Dominic and two other communities, they help out at the Cathedral in Bridgetown and at the school run by the Ursuline Sisters. They have also taken on responsibility for the construction of a new parish centre and of a temporary church in another parish.
In meetings with diverse ecclesial groups a great hope for the future was evident and numerous areas of pastoral work for the new Pallottine missionaries were proposed. PHOTO
