Inauguration of an International Pallottine Novitiate |
On 5 May 2009, a historical event took place for the Pallottine family at the St. Vincent Pallotti Novitiate House of the Italian Province of the Queen of Apostles, at Grottaferrata, Rome, with the inauguration of an International Pallottine Novitiate programme. This initiative is a response to the challenge of giving a common Pallottine formation to the small number of novices in the Pallottine entities of Western Europe, USA and Australia, in the true Pallottine spirit of cooperation. This new experience, to begin with, will be limited to the two months of May and June this year. Presently there are 2 novices from the Italian Province of Queen of Apostles, 2 from the Irish Province of Mother of Divine Love, 1 from the German - Austrian Province of the Sacred Heart, and 1 from the Congregation of the Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate. The formation will be under the guidance of the team of Novice Masters - Fr. Andrea Fulco (Italy), Fr. Jochen Ruiner (Germany), Fr. Michael Irwin (Ireland) and the Novice Mistress Sr. Daniela Sinescalchi (Italy) in collaboration with the SAC General Secretariat for Formation. The novitiate was formally inaugurated with a solemn Eucharistic celebration on 4 May 2009, at which Fr. Antonio Lotti, the Provincial Rector of the Italian Province, was the main celebrant and in the presence of the Superior General Sr. Serena Cambiaghi, the Provincial Superior Sr. Sara Carfagna, the UAC President Fr. Derry Murphy, and Fr. Jacob Nampudakam, General Consultor and the General Secretary for Formation,. May our holy Founder St. Vincent Pallotti bless and accompany this humble effort! |

Official Visitation in Papua New Guinea |
From 20 to 30 April 2009 Fr. Gilberto Orsolin and Fr. Janusz Luczak visited the Pallottine mission in Papua New Guinea. The first two Pallottines arrived on this remote island almost 20 years ago having as main task to help the young Church Local. In fact, the first missionaries arrived only in 1896. Currently the mission entrusted to the Polish Province of the Annunciation (PN), is concentrated in the Diocese of Wewak, and the pastoral care of six parishes that are located on islands in the tropical forest and the town of Wewak. The six confreres, five priests and a brother, face the difficulties involved in missionary work with great dedication and Pallottine spirit. Suffice it to say that to reach the most remote islands, it takes 7-8 hours of journey on the boat into the ocean, or to reach the missionary station in the forest are needed nearly 5 hours of walking.

Official Visitation in South Korea |
In the days 14-19 April 2009, the Vice General Fr. Zenon Hanas visited the Pallottine communities in South Korea which belong to the Delegature of the Polish Province of the Annunciation of the Lord. The presence of the Pallottines in South Korea began 19 years ago. The first two Polish Pallottines arrived in Seoul and started the linguistic and cultural preparation for their mission in Korea. At the moment there are five priests and one brother working in the two places: in Bundang-Dong (diocese of Suwon) and Yangdeogwon (diocese of Chunchon). Two years ago the first Pallottine from Korea was ordained priest by Archbishop Henryk Hoser SAC. In the two communities there are also three candidates in the stage of postulancy and one candidate with the temporary consecration. In Bundang-Dong there is a house with a chapel for prayer, adoration, liturgy and meetings of different groups. In Yangdeogwon a house and Shrine of Divine Mercy are still under construction. The apostolic and pastoral work of the Pallottines is mostly concentrated on spiritual formation of groups of lay people preparing them to be "Apostles of Divine Mercy" in the modern world. This spiritual movement seems to respond to the needs of the Church in Korea. Our confreres send out every month 6.000 copies of the bulletin "Apostles of Divine Mercy" to Korean families in many different countries in the world. Beside this they distribute many copies of pamphlets informing about the Pallottine Society. The celebration of the Feast of Divine Mercy on White Sunday gathered about 2000 people. The main celebrant was Mons. Matthias Ri Iong-hoon, the Bishop of Suwon. Little by little they are thinking how to give more Pallottine formation to the involved groups. With the limited personal resources our confreres try to translate into Korean language the most important documents about the vision of St. Vincent Pallotti, the Union of the Catholic Apostolate (UAC) and prepare the materials for the formation of the SAC candidates as well as members of the UAC. Second Asia - Oceania Intercontinental Meeting |
The Second Asia - Oceania Intercontinental Meeting, marked by its great diversity of cultures, was held at Pallotti College, Milgrove, Australia from 21-25 April 2009. It was held in two parts: the first three days were dedicated to the UAC and the rest were allotted to the SAC. The UAC meeting was attended by the Major Superiors or their Delegates from the Society of the Catholic Apostolate, the Congregation of the Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate, the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate, the Secular Institutes of Mariana Community and the Khristevikas and two lay members of the UAC in Australia. Fr. Zenon Hanas and Fr. Jacob Nampudakam represented the SAC General Council. The central point of both the meeting was collaboration among the entities of the Pallottine family of this grouping in apostolate, mission and formation. A number of concrete suggestions were made for future implementation. The unique achievement of this meeting was the new approach to the Continental Meeting where the first part is held in the ambit of the UAC and the second part is dedicated to the SAC. The next meeting is scheduled for 2011, to be held in the Province of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, India. |
