The Provincial Assembly of the Irish Province, held this year, took the decision to name the Province Mary, Mother of Divine Love. All the Pallottine Provinces now have a specific name, which in some way, expresses its nature.

The Institute of Saint Vincent Pallotti in the General House of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate in Rome is a center of study and research on the life of St. Vincent Pallotti, on the origin of the charism, on the foundation of the Catholic Apostolate and its development, taking into account the cultural and historical development of Pallottine thought. Beyond that it is responsible for spreading the Pallottine message and veneration of the saint. The General Council has appointed a new Council of the Institute with a mandate until to 31 March 2014: Director: Fr. Jan Kupka, SAC; Councillors: Fr. Antonio Celona, SAC, Sr. Carmela Coscia, CSAC, Sr. Mary Landsberger, SAC, Fr. Piotr Bełczowski, SAC, Mr. Joseph Del Coiro.

The General Secretariat for the Apostolate is an auxiliary body to the General Council of the Society. The Secretariat has two principal tasks. It should keep the Provinces informed about trends of the apostolate in Church and society and promote the cooperation of the Provinces and groups which are involved in similar activities. The General Council nominated the following members of this Secretariat for a period of three years beginning on 22 January 2011: Fr. Martin Manus (CJ), Secretary General Fr.   Curriculum Vitae of Fr. Séamus Freeman, SAC We communicate to you a great joy: today September 14th. we received the news of the nomination, by Pope Benedict XVI, of Fr. Séamus Freeman, SAC as bishop of the Dioceses of Ossory in Ireland. Fr. Séamus Freeman, was born in Mullinahone, Co. Tipperary, Ireland, on February 23rd, 1944.  He entered the minor seminary of the Society in Thurles, in 1958, he made First Profession on September 12th, 1965, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 12th, 1971. Following on ordination he became personal secretary to the Rector General of the Society, Fr. Nicholas Gorman, SAC; he studied Psychology at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC, from 1973 to 1975.  He was Rector of the Church of San Silvestro in Capite, Rome, from 1975 to 1981 when he became Rector of the house of formation of the Society in Thurles.  At the General Assembly of 1983 he was elected General Consultor; he was re-elected at the Assembly of 1989 and became Vicar-General of the Society; he was elected Rector General at the Assembly of 1992 and re-elected to the post in the Assembly of 1998.  In October of 2005 he was nominated Parish Priest of the Parish of St. Vincent Pallotti, Pietralata, Roma, in a gesture of collaboration between the Italian and Irish Provinces of the Society. His dedication to the Union of the Catholic Apostolate is known to you all as is his insight into the charism entrusted by God to St. Vincent Pallotti and its role in the Church.  At the first General Assembly of the UAC held at the St. Vincent Pallotti Spirituality Centre, Grottaferrata, in December 2005, he was elected as a member of the General Coordination Council of the Union, the members of the Council elected him President of the UAC at the first meeting of the entire Council held in May 2006. Our Society gives thanks to God and to the Church for choosing our brother for this ministry.  We all join in wishing Fr. Séamus Freeman well and we assure him of our prayers. May he receive abundant graces from the Lord and may his apostolate be fruitful for the Diocese of Ossory and for the entire Church.

The Holy Father has appointed His Grace Msgr. Henryk Hoser, SAC, so far Assistant Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and President of the Pontifical Mission Societies, Bishop of Warsaw-Prague (Poland), preserving the dignity of Archbishop. We entrust his new pastoral service to the Polish Church through the intercession of our Founder, St. Vincent Pallotti and the Blessed Pallottine Martyrs  Józef Jankowski and Józef Stanek. May Mary, Queen of the Apostles, the Patroness of the Union of Catholic Apostolate, guide and protect him.

The General Council has made the following appointments: the General Secretariat for the Apostolate: Fr. Zenon Hanas (WA) - General Secretary, Fr. Bruno Ateba (FB.CM), Fr. Piotr Banach (WA), Fr. Dean Bradbury (AU), Fr. Frank Donio (IC), Fr. Ademar Fighera (SM), Fr. Markus Hau (FB) and Fr. Bipin Kishore Minj (RA). The three year term began on June 1st 2008. the General Secretariat for the Missions: Fr. Gilberto Orsolin (SM) - General Secretary, Fr. Wolfgang Dutzi ( FB), Fr. John Kelly (IR), Fr. Grzegorz Mlodawski (WA), Fr. Xavier Rayappan (BA) and Fr. Peter Sticco (IC). The three year term began on June 1st. 2008. the Historical Commission: Fr. Mariano Pinasco (IR.AR), has been appointed President of the Historical Commission which had already been named and is made up of the following members: Fr. João B. Quaini (SM) and Fr. Donal McCarthy (IR). Fr. Francesco Todisco, General Consultor will continue to be the "contact person" of the General Regime in the Commission.

As a result of the appointment of the new Regional Rector of the French Region, Fr. L. Woroniecki (PN) and his Council, and due to the new formative responsibility of Fr. Stanislaw Stawicki in Rome, it became necessary to substitute the Provincial and Regional Consultors of the Polish Province of the "Annunciation of the Lord" and the "Holy Family" Region in Rwanda/Congo respectively. The General Council, in accordance with Law SAC, Appendix II, n. 6, declared elected Fr. Adam Kamizela as Consultor of the Polish Province of the "Annunciation of the Lord" and Fr. Zbigniew Pawlowski as Consultor of the "Holy Family" Region in Rwanda/Congo. The General Council, in addition, has appointed Fr. Stanislaw Filipek, member of the "Holy Family" Region, as the new member of the Council of the General Secretariat for the Missions.

Kupka is also reconfirmed as the Librarian of the Generalate and together with him the following confreres form the Commission for the Library: Fr. Z. Hanas, Fr. J. Vikoler, Fr. J. Murphy and Fr. Rocchetti. - Juridical Commission: Fr. Karl Heinen - President, Fr. H. Socha, Fr. J. Korycki, Fr. Tomasz Skibinski, Fr. Joy Pallachuttavil, Fr. Janusz Luczak, Fr. Geraldo Denilson. - Fr. Norbert Hannappel (FB) collaborator of the Generalate Archive from May 1, 2008.

Colombia - Venezuela: the members of the Pallottine family in Colombia and Venezuela have met and started the process for the formation of a National Coordination Council of the UAC which will coordinate the activities and the life of the Union in both countries. The members of the Council are: Fr. Mariusz Maka, SAC, Provincial Delegate and President of the Council for this three year period, Fr. Mariusz Piatkowshi, SAC, Fr. Roman Nakoneczny, SAC, Mr. Diego Calderon, UAC and Mrs. Maria Piedad Zuluaga, UAC Celebration of the Octave of the Epiphany in Italy: the Octave of the Epiphany is celebrated each year in the towns of Riposto in Sicily and Avella in Campania. In both towns the Sisters of the Congregation of the Catholic Apostolate continue with this tradition which is deeply rooted in the life of the local Church in the respective Dioceses. This year the novices of the Italian Province of the Society and the novice of the CSAC Sisters, accompanied by their formators, Fr. Andrea Fulco, SAC and Sr. Daniela Sinescalchi, CSAC, participated in the celebrations and animated some of the events and activities of the Octave. Srs. Salete Cargnin and Lily Nanat, CSAC, General Consultors, and Fr. Derry Murphy, SAC, General Secretary of the UAC, also participated. New members of the UAC in Italy: seven persons from the towns of Aprilia and Ostia made their Act of Apostolic Commitment during a concelebrated Holy Mass on Sunday January 11th in the Church of SS. Salvatore in Onda. They were accompanied by the President of the National Coordination Council, Fr. Gaetano Ianni, SAC and numerous members of the UAC and of the Pallottine family from various parts of Italy. The Mass was animated and guided by the members of the UAC. Our Church, which is the Spiritual Centre of the UAC, was full to capacity on this occasion. Following on from the Mass the participants visited our Founder's room and the St. Vincent Pallotti Museum and, after a packed lunch, they continued on a pilgrimage to the Basilica of St. Paul outside the Walls.

The annual meeting of the General Coordination Council of the Union will take place at the Centro di Spiritualità San Vincenzo Pallotti, Grottaferrata, from May 12th to 17th. The Sisters of the Congregation of Our Lady, Mother of Divine Love, Ntaba Maria, South Africa, a Community of the Union,  held a General Chapter of the Congregation at the beginning of the year, Sr. De Sales Solani was elected General Superior. The Sisters of the Province of Nossa Senhora Aparecida, Brazil, of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate, have opened a Province web-site, the address is: www.cacip.com.br. Sr. Ines Casarin, CSAC, has begun a new period as Provincial Superior of the same Province. The National Coordination Council of the UAC in Brazil has organized a National Encounter of the UAC which will take place on May 24th and 25th at Canção Nova - São Paulo.  The participants in the Encounter will also be present at the celebration to mark the 170th anniversary of the foundation of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate, and the 75th anniversary of its missionary presence in Brazil.  The celebration will take place in the Basilica Nossa Senhora Aparecida, Sao Paolo.
