From March 6th- 8th, 2012, the meeting of the SAC Commission for the Youth Apostolate took place at the Generalate, convoked by its President, Fr Daniel Rochetti, SAC (RJ). The following were among the most important themes of the meeting: the preparation of the course for those responsible for youth work in our Provinces/Regions, which will take place in Rome in July 2012, the new website of the Commission and its Facebook profile; the preparation of the 'Pallottine Youth Encounter' in Curitiba, Brazil before World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro in 2013. The important objectives of these initiatives and of the work of the Commission are primarily: to encourage collaboration between our entities in the area of youth ministry and to create a common identity and network for Pallottine youth. The Commission has a new website, created by Fr Andy Givel (CH): www.pallottineyouth.net This site gives information on youth ministry activities in the Society at international and continental levels and facilitates an exchange between young Pallottines throughout the world. It contains a short presentation on St Vincent Pallotti as well as listing websites, Pallottine Facebook groups, films and photographs of Pallottine events in the area of youth Ministry in different countries, etc. With this new website the Commission for the Youth Apostolate wishes to help reinforce those confreres entrusted with pastoral youth ministry and to create a common Pallottine identity among the youth themselves.

This year the meeting of the General Secretariat for the Apostolate was held from February 29th to March 2nd in Gdansk, Poland. As one of the main themes of the work of the Secretariat in this period is the socio-charitable apostolate, the members took the opportunity to visit some socio-charitable works of the "Annunciation of the Lord" Province located in Poznan (PN). Among these is the hospice (a residential palliative care centre) in Gdansk in which Pallottines, along with many volunteers, care for the terminally ill by offering humane and dignified conditions in the last phase of their lives. In this way, the members of the Secretariat alternated their reflections and discussions with practical experiences which inspired their work greatly. Another theme of the annual meeting was the establishment of a subsidy for Pallottine voluntary work that will facilitate collaboration in the exchange of volunteers between our provinces/regions. Finally, the Secretariat is committed to giving continuity to the initiatives already undertaken by the preceding Secretariat with respect to Pallottine parishes, and more specifically the preparation of the week of formation for parish priests in 2012. All of the members of the Secretariat were very pleased with the great hospitality on the part of the brothers in Gdansk, with the fraternal spirit in the various communities of the city and their apostolic commitment. It was an experience of Pallottine fraternity in this jubilee year of the canonization of our Holy Founder. Danzica2012

From 22-29th September 2011 there took place for the first time a meeting of those members engaged in the social-charitable apostolate at the 'Cenacle' centre at Via Giuseppe Ferrari, Rome, organised by the General Secretariat for the Apostolate. The following members participated:Rodolfo Capalozza (AR), Jose Elias Fadul (SP), Eugeniusz Lesniak (PN), Bronislaw Rosik (WA), Pawel Dobrzynski (WA), Clesio Facco (SM), Jean de Dieu Kasereka (SF), Abraham Thylammanal (NA), Anthony Kaithaparambil (NA), Anthony Swammy Muthanna (BA), Hilarius Tigga (RA) and on behalf of the General Secretariat, Piotr Krakowiak (PN) and Martin Manus. Reflecting on texts of St Vincent Pallotti regarding the social- charitable apostolate and visiting places linked to such work of our Founder the participants had the opportunity to see how they could deepen the Pallottine charism in their own work. In their sharing, a very large picture was revealed of the social-charitable tasks in our Society: we are doing our utmost, for example, for the poor, orphans, homeless, drug addicts, lepers, HIV sick and the terminally ill. Furthermore, an overview was presented of the social-charitable apostolate of the SAC based on the results of a survey conducted by the General Secretariat in the first months of 2011. The visit to the Pontifical Council for Health Works and a meeting with its President, Mons Zygmunt Zimowski was one of the highpoints of the week. The development of a Pallottine Volunteer programme was taken into consideration as a possibility for collaboration between our social works. After a week full of inspirations, of experiences and of fraternal communion the participants expressed their desire to continue to reflect about these themes at provincial, continental and all levels of the SAC.

From the 11th-15th August - with great joy and spontaneity - many of our young Pallottines came together at Odivelas, a city near to Lisbon, in Portugal, to prepare themselves for the 26th World Youth Day. There were about 200 young people coming from Portugal, Brazil, India, Poland, United States and South Africa who came to know a little of Portugal's history, visiting important sites in the cities of Odivelas and Lisbon. They experienced the emotions of a beautiful Eucharistic celebration in the great sanctuary of Fatima; they examined thoroughly one of the principal aspects of Pallottine spirituality i.e. collaboration. Indeed, it is true that they exchanged embraces smiles and despite their differing languages, they communicated with each other: there was the possibility to begin friendships with the distances shortened by the new methods of social communication. The next meeting of Pallottine youth is in 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, for the next World Youth Day. FOTO

The Commission for the Youth Apostolate met for the first time in Rome from 6 to 8 April 2011. It is compsed of the following members: Fr. Daniel Rocchetti (RJ/Brazil – President), Fr. Andrzej Daniewicz (WA/Poland), Fr. Jean Bertrand Etoundi (CN/Cameroon), Fr. Rashmikant Nayak (RA/India), Fr. Andy Givel (CH/Switzerland) e Fr. Martin Manus, (General Consultor and contact person on the General Council). Firstly, the Commission defined three general objectives: human, Christian and Pallottine formation. Thus, activities planned for the future such as formation meetings and spiritual retreats in Rome, international meetings before World Youth Days, pilgrimages, missionary experiences, etc. will aim towards developing these three dimensions. For making contact with young people, two languages above all were identified as being useful: virtual communication (internet sites and participation in social networks) and artistic communication (music, theatre, painting, web design and other arts). During the last day of the meeting, two representatives of the Commission presented the fruits of their work and some concrete proposals for the next three years to the General Council, which requested further information and clarification while encouraging the new Commission to concretize their initiatives.

From 29 to 31 March 2011, the General House was the location for the annual meeting of the General Secretariat for the Apostolate, presently composed of the following confreres: Fr. Richard Ngono Edjili (CN), Fr. Piotr Krakowiak (PN), Fr. Dean Bradbury (AU), Fr. Frank Donio (IC), Fr. Moacir José Piovesan (SM), Fr. Markus Hau (CJ), Fr. Rahul Philips (RA) and Fr. Martin Manus (General Secretary for the Apostolate). After the introduction of the Rector General, Fr . Jacob Nampudakam, in which he indicated the tasks of the Secretariat, the following issues were dealt with: reflection and sharing on the work of the Secretariat, continuation and further development of its activities, tasks of the Secretariat which derive from the decisions of the XX General Assembly; sharing on the apostolic challenges and the experiences in the different countries. The participants then chose four principal apostolic fields for the coming years, two already begun by the preceding Secretariat (Pallottine parishes and mass media) and two new ones (the socio-charitable apostolate and Pallottine spiritual centres). A team of two members responsible for each apostolic field was formed in order to study the situation and the principal challenges, to seek new ideas and possible responses, and to propose and prepare concrete projects for the following annual meeting. In 2011 the emphasis will be on the socio-charitable apostolate, while in 2012 on spiritual centres. The President for the new Commission for Youth, Fr. Daniel Rocchetti, also participated in one session, giving a talk which was much appreciated by the members of the Secretariat. The summer week of formation of 2011 was also prepared, as well as various proposals for the 50th anniversary of the canonisation of our Founder. At the end, all of the participants judged the meeting to have been a good beginning for the new Secretariat.

For the third time, the meeting of the Pallottine parish priests was held at the International Centre for Pallottine Formation ("Cenacle"), in Rome. There were fifteen participants from India (1), Brazil (4), Poland (2), Ukraine (1), USA (2), Slovakia (1), Germany (1), Austria (1), Venezuela (1) and Cameroon (1). It is worth mentioning here that six of the confreres are working outside their own countries of origin. This is indicative of the missionary spirit of our Society. The formation course was guided by Fr. Zenon Hanas and Fr. Piotr Banach, members of the General Secretariat for the Apostolate, and accompanied by Fr. Stanisław Stawicki. The participants shared their pastoral experiences in their own cultural contexts and looked for the common elements that characterised the parish ministry according to the "Pallottine profile". They also evaluated their practical experiences in the light of the ecclesial vision of St. Vincent Pallotti. From the various presentations emerged some of the common elements: openness and the spirit of hospitality towards everyone in the parish community, sensitivity towards the signs of the times, creativity in the search for new pastoral initiatives, collaboration with all members of the Church and the participation of all in the life of the parish. These characteristics were present both in the reflections of the participants as well as in the conferences given by the experts on Pallottine spirituality. The parish priests also participated at the General Audience of Pope Benedict XVI and visited the Pallottine places in Rome like the Pia Casa di Carità, the Church of SS. Salvatore in Onda, la Church of Spirito Santo dei Napoletani and the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples. All the participants, majority of whom work in the Local Churches, liked the fraternal atmosphere and the universality as well as the internationality of the Pallottine Family. The different languages used – English, Polish and Portuguese – were, on one hand, a big challenge, but, on the other hand, were an enrichment for all. All acknowledged the usefulness of such meetings and hoped that they will be continued.
