Meeting of the General Coordination Council of the UAC Print
Consiglio di Coordinamento Generale dell'UAC 2013The meeting of the General Coordination Council of the Union of Catholic Apostolate was held from 11-15 May 2013 at the International Centre for Pallottine Formation ("Cenacle"), Rome. The participants expressed their happiness at the gradual growth of the Union around the world. The Jubilee Year of the 50th anniversary of the Canonization of St. Vincent Pallotti was particularly a time of grace for the entire Pallottine Family.
At the same time, the proper and effective growth of the Union requires much closer attention and accompaniment by the General Coordination Council, National Coordination Councils, the formation incharges and, particularly by the Core Communities. There should be an ongoing process of creative, critical and profound reflection on all the aspects of the Union; the leadership teams at all levels and the existing structures of the Union need to be further strengthened. The deep study and experience of the spirituality and charism of St. Vincent Pallotti alone will enable us to understand his charismatic vision of the Union of Catholic Apostolate. There is also the need for ongoing formation of the members who have made their apostolic commitment and they should be helped to engage in concrete apostolic and missionary activities in order to give meaning and expression to their apostolic formation. The meeting dealt with these and many other urgent issues connected with the growth of the Union and has proposed a number of action plans for further reflection and implementation.

Pallottine Apps Print

We draw attention to two Pallottine Apps a realisation of the Immaculate Conception Province (IC) that is called PallottiApp (only on Apple) and the other recently created by the St Nicholas of Flue Province (Sw) with the name Pallotti (for Apple and Android systems)

APP2The PallottiApp up to now exists only in English and offers a daily meditation based on a quotation from the writings of our Founder, in the book ‘The vision of St Vincent Pallotti. The Spiritual and apostolic principles of the Union of the Catholic Apostolate’ by Brother James Beamesderfer (IC) and Georgette Gray and the Pallottine Community Prayer Book in English. To download the application you can visit the site www.sacapostles.org or go directly to the Apple Store.

APP2The Pallotti Application however is in German and English, and hopes to soon add other languages. The application enables one to make a tour of the most important places where St Vincent lived and worked with the aid of a map (the GPS system leads persons to different places) with a photo and description of every place. Addressed above all to young people  it is useful to all for a first contact with Pallotti. There is also: a brief biography of Pallotti, a section with the explanation of some religious terms and another with Pallottine principles. To download the application you can visit the site www.pallotti-app.com or go directly to the Apple Store or to the Google Play Store.

'Easter trip' of the General House Community Print

On Saturday, May 4th 2013, a new edition of the traditional 'Easter trip' took the General House Community to Naples, the city of St Gennaro. We were 37: mostly members of the General House along with confreres from the year course at Via G. Ferrari and others attached to the Generalate. During the long journey (220 kilometres) we recited lauds and before arriving heard historical news about the city.
Having only arrived we were directed to the Church of St Giuseppe dei Ruffi (Sisters of Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament) to celebrate Mass, led by four confreres who this year will return to their respective Provinces/ Regions (Santosh Bara, Jose Luis Gulpio, Elmar Rubira and Rajesh Ummikuzhiyil)
The Assumption of Mary Cathedral was one of the obligatory visits; we found various statues of Saints decorated for the procession, which would take place that afternoon in honour of St Gennaro, patron of the city.
We ate lunch in the park adjacent to the beautiful palace of Capodimonte. In the afternoon, some had decided to walk along the beach and others took the opportunity to visit the Maschio Angioino/ Castel Nuovo or the Royal Palace or the Church of St Francis di Paul (the Naples Pantheon).
At 17.30 we departed from Naples, we recited Evening Prayer and near 8 p.m. we arrived at 'Federico' restaurant (near Anagni) where the lady Rosa awaited us to offer us her extraordinary home-made dinner. Before leaving, on the steps of the restaurant, we had the 'official' photograph of the trip.
We arrived at the house very late and a little tired but it was a lovely day and we were grateful to God and to each one of the participants for the opportunity to have lived together.

175th anniversary of foundation of the Pallottine Sisters Print

S. Vincenzo PallottiOn 19 May 2013, the Solemnity of Pentecost, the two Pallottine Congregation of the Sisters (the Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate and the Missionary Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate) together celebrated the 175th anniversary of the foundation with a Eucharistic Celebration presided by our Rector General, Fr . Jacob Nampudakam, in the Church of SS. Salvatore in Onda. In the letter announcing the event, signed by the two Superiors General, Sr. Serena Cambiaghi, CSAC and Sr. Izabela Świerad, SAC, they write: "we will bring to mind our roots and the history we have lived that, even having separated us, did not spare us from difficult and painful moments, because we have been accompanied by God's Providence, which has guided us. We wish to express our gratitude to God for the blessings received, which allowed new life to come forth from hardship and suffering. It is for years that we are acknowledging one another as sisters, daughters of the same Father and this communion is a great gift for our religious Communities and for the whole Pallottine Family".

Meeting of the Pallotti Institute, May 2013 Print

Sr. Bożena OlszweskaThe friends and followers of St Vincent Pallotti gathered in the Church of San Salvatore in Onda on May 9th 2013 for the second of the annual meetings organised by the Roman Pallottine Institute. The theme for the reflection: 'The proposals indicated by Pallotti to re-ignite charity' was presented by Sr Bozena Olszewska SAC of the Pallottine Missionary Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate.

The power point illustrations on screen were a great help in following her presentation. At the beginning of the presentation, Sr Bozena reminded all that to revive faith and re-ignite/ re-awaken charity among the believers was the great desire, idea and objective of St Vincent Pallotti. All the apostolic initiatives of the Saint were addressed to the realisation of this task. Based on enquiry into the writings of Pallotti and her personal reflections the presenter singled out the following ways and the areas that Pallotti himself put forward to revive faith and re-ignite charity. She presented the following: listen to the Word of God, persevere in prayer, reciting the Rosary, participation in the sufferings of Christ, spreading the evangelical doctrine, respect for the old institutions of the Church, exercise of the works of corporal mercy, spreading of good publications, diffusion of devotional objects, witness to the proper life state and all other opportune work.

These indicators proposed by Pallotti- Sr Bozena noted in her conclusion- could be an encouragement and inspiration to revive faith and reignite charity in the people of our world, especially in the face of the challenges of the new evangelisation. To-day's world has need of Christians strong in their faith and ardent in charity, because only with faith alive and consistent, strengthened by works of charity can one ignite the world and attract others to Christ the Saviour. We the followers of Pallotti are invited to the fantasy, to the creativity of love to reawaken charity in the people we meet in the street of life.

The fourth Asia-Oceania Intercontinental Meeting Print

Incontro Continentale Asia-Australia 2013The fourth Asia-Oceania Intercontinental Meeting was held from 24 to 27 April 2013 at Pallotti College, Melbourne, Australia. The Provincial/Regional Rectors and their Delegates from Australia, India, South Korea, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, the Philippines and Hong Kong participated in this event. Fr. Jacob Nampudakam, the person responsible from the General Council for Asia – Oceania was also present on this occasion.

The first day of the meeting, 24th April 2013, was dedicated to a meeting with members of the Union of Catholic Apostolate in Australia. During the inaugural Mass, presided over by the Rector General, he emphasized the importance on relying on the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, leading to a style of life and apostolate based on the life of Jesus as we discover it in the Gospels and impelling us to go out on mission to share the same Good News. Reports were given on the life and activities of the Union groups in all the countries where the Pallottine charism is present in the Asia-Oceania region. Information on the celebration of the Jubilee Year of the 50th anniversary of the Canonization of St. Vincent Pallotti was a matter of special interest to all the participants.

The next two days, 25th and 26th April 2013, were dedicated to the examination of the Pallottine presence in the various countries in Asia-Oceania, with the specific goal of strengthening these missions and outlining their concrete needs. Much time was allotted to searching for new ways and means to bring new life to the Australian Region. While keeping our eyes open to any new vocations to the Region, it was also found necessary to strengthen the Pallottine presence in Australia through collaboration with other Pallottine entities.
Many of the new missions such as those in the Philippines, Taiwan and Hong Kong need to work towards establishing a permanent Pallottine presence in these countries and even to seek local vocations. All of these missionary initiatives can be developed only through collaboration involving the sharing of personnel and material resources. But prayers for the success of these missionary activities should be considered the first priority.

The last day, 27th April 2013, was dedicated to the Concluding Mass presided over by Fr. Eugene San, Regional Rector of the Australian Region, and to an outing. As a whole, it was a fruitful meeting which we hope will lead to the further strengthening of the Pallottine presence in many of these mission countries. Our thanks to the Australian Region and to all its members for their hospitality and fraternal welcome.
